Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Pays Tributes To Young Martyrs of Assam

North-East: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal paid tributes to young martyrs of Assam today on Monday, September 20.

Significance of this News :

The Union Minister remembers the freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for their motherland, Especially during India's most massive and historic freedom viz the Quit India Movement. The Freedom fighters included such as – Kanaklata Baruah, Mukunda Kakati, Tileswari Baruah, and others.

“Tributes to young martyrs of Assam – Kanaklata Baruah, Mukunda Kakati, Tileswari Barua, and many others, who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 20 during the Quit India Movement in 1942. A historic day in India’s freedom movement, their valour continues to inspire us all.” – tweeted the former HCM of Assam.

On August 8, 2020, Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement, also known as ‘August Movement’ or ‘Bharat Chodo Andolan’ at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Initiated to demand an end to the British rule in the nation, the Quit India Movement has been considered as one of the most significant events in the history of India’s freedom struggle.

A civil disobedience movement, the protest was followed to grant independence from the hands of Britishers.

During the period, several young patriots from Assam laid their lives for the nation while leading the procession bearing the National Flag.

The Movement also took place at Kamrup, Nagaon, Darrang, Sivasagar, Golaghat, and Barpeta of Assam.

Meanwhile, several women freedom fighters from the state, members of ‘Mrityu-Bahini’ or ‘Santi-Sena’ are considered as the backbone of the movement.
