The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) condemns those Naga women tying Rakhi to the Armed Forces

NAGALAND: The history of Nagaland with the armed forces has always been rough and unprecedented. Lately, some Naga women were reported to have tied Rakhi to the armed force personals which in turn got a backlash from certain groups in Nagaland viz, The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and the Global Naga Forum.
The Mother's Association came out bitterly against the gesture rendered by the Naga women who tied the Rakhis to the arm forces stating, "For us, Naga women, traumatized by a genocidal history of rapes, molestation, killings, village groupings, inhumane army atrocities at the hands of Indian armed forces under the impunity of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), it is a shame and a black day to witness our women, tying rakhis and felicitating these very armed forces, when we are yet to see justice for war crimes and human rights violations committed against our own women, children and men”.
The NMA stated that whether it is the BJP political party initiative in Dimapur or the Students Union obligation in Tamenglong, The act of tying the Rakhis was totally unacceptable, Further, the leader also stated, " as long as Nagas are forced to live under AFSPA in these Naga areas such activities will be like hitting one's own toes".
Every year on 6th Sep NMA and the Nagas observes a Black Day in memory of the unimaginable and horrific massacres of Nagas by the armed forces. (16th Assam Regiment)
The mother's association mentioned that the haunting cry of the families of all the victims still haunt the ears in Nagaland and hitherto it has never been given proper heed.
The history of Nagaland has not been smooth when it comes to the armed forces.
