New Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge forms Steering Committee of 47 members.

New Congress President,
Mallikarjun Kharge forms Steering Committee of 47 members on Wednesday.
The 47 member 'Steering Committee' includes Congress Party's ex-Presidents, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and also the former Prime Minister of the country, Manmohan Singh. Other members of the panel include Priyanka Gandhi, P Chidambaram, Randeep Surjewala, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, AK Antony, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Ajay Maken and others.
The newly set up Steering Committee headed by Kharge will be replacing the current Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's apex decision-making body until a new CWC is formed.
"As
per Article XV (b) of the Constitution of the Indian National Congress, the
Congress President has constituted the Steering Committee which would function
in place of the Congress Working Committee," stated an official release by
K.C Venugopal, Congress MP, along with which the list of members of the
committee was also attached.
Earlier in the afternoon, K.C Venugopal informed through his social media handle that all the CWC Members, AICC General Secretaries and Incharges have tendered their resignation to Congress President which enabled Kharge to freely constitute the Steering Committee.
It
is to be noted that, most of the previous CWC members were retained in the
Steering Committee.
However, Shashi Tharoor, who contested against Kharge in the recently concluded election for the Congress Presidential post, is missing from the list of members.
