Man sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for NDPS case.

The
Court of District and Session Judge, Session Division, Bomdila, West Kameng
district , Arunachal Pradesh has sentenced a 44 year old person, Md Unesh Ali,
a resident of Baruajhar village, PO- Bechamari,
PS- Dolgaon, District- Darrang, Assam to undergo 10 years of rigorous
imprisonment (RI) after convicting him in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances (NDPS) case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the
convict.
The
Police had arrested Md Unesh Ali in connection with transportation of 91 kg of
cannabis in a vehicle belonging to Ali.
Earlier
On August 27, 2018, a case, vide Balemu PS Case No. 11/2018 U/S 20 (B) of NDPS
Act, was registered when a written FIR was received from Inspr. / GD P. Lotha
of 61st Bn SSB where he mentioned that during a special operation in
between 900 Chain Border Outpost to 1100 Chain area, the SSB Personnel under
the command of Inspr./ GD P> Lotha had intercepted one white color Bolero
ZLX vehicle bearing registration NO. AS-01-DN 1844 at block point while was
transporting 91 kg of cannabis.
Following
which, it was informed that the driver of the vehicle jumped off towards the
down side of the road and fled away.
The
registration of the case led to the hunting down of the driver who fled away
since 2018 by the Balemu Police and during the investigation, it was revealed
that the vehicle’s belonged to Md. Unesh Ali, a resident of Baruajhar village,
PO- Bechamari, PS- Dolgaon, District- Darrang, Assam.
On
January 28, 2022, convict Unesh Ali was proclaimed as absconder when the NBW
issued against Ali could not be executed.
And
then, finally, on July 12, 2021, convict Unesh was arrested and was kept in judicial
custody for a period of 18 days.
The Investigating Officer of the case found a prima facie case against convict Unesh Ali and filed charge sheet to the court on 1/06/2021 to face a trial. In addition to substantiated evidence, a supplementary charge sheet was filed to the court on 22/11/2021 by the IO.
Upon
the final completion of the trial on 05/01/2023, the court convicted the
accused of the charges framed against him and sentenced him to undergo 10 years
of rigorous imprisonment and the court also directed the convict to pay a fine
of Rs 1 Lakh.
Furthermore,
the vehicle of the convict which was used for transportation of commercial
quantity of cannabis has also been confiscated under section 60 (30) of NDPS
Act.

Bomdila, B Bharat Reddy said such remarkable judgment must be considered as a
great achievement to the Court of Special Judge (NDPS) Bomdila and also for the
IO who acted as a major deterrent to NDPS crime in the society.
Speaking
over the conviction in NDPS cases of the district, the SP further stated that,
over the last two years, the notable growth of conviction rate in NDPS cases is
a sign of positive development.
