Lovlina Borgohain advances to the semi-finals of Women's World Boxing Championships 2023.

Assam's Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has made it to the semi-finals of ongoing IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships being held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday (March 22).

The
25 year old beat last year’s World Championship bronze medalist Adosinda Rady
Gramane of Mozambique in the quarter finals by 5-0 in the 75kg round-of-16
match to reach the semi finals.
According
to reports, Lovelina became the 4th Indian to reach the Semi finals of the
World Championship.
Apart
from Lovlina, Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora
(81kg) also enter the semi finals to take place from 6 pm IST onwards on
Thursday, March 23.
Lovlina
had earlier won two medals in the World Boxing Chamipionships, this is going to
be her third one.
In
an interview, Lovlina said she is hoping to change the colour of this year’s
medals and that she feels happy that she’s able to give her 100 % since the championship
is being played in her home ground.
“The
coaches had told me how to play today and it worked successfully as I was able
to fight well. I feel comfortable in this weight category and I have adapted to
it well with my performances in competitions going well. Today’s medal is very
important for me but I don’t want to settle for bronze as it is going to be
crucial for the upcoming Asian Games as well,” Lovlina further said after the match.
This
year, New Delhi is hosting the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023 from
March 16 to March 26, in which more than 300 athletes from across the world are
participating.
Lovlina
will take to the ring for a high-profile clash against the 2018 World Champion
and two-time Olympics medalist Li Qian of China in the semi-finals.
