Lok Sabha passes Demands for Grants for Budget 2023-24 and Appropriate Bill.

The
Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Demands for Grants authorizing expenditure of
about Rs 45 lakh crore for the financial year 2023-24 by a voice vote amidst
ruckus from the Opposition demanding for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe
into the Adani issue while shouting slogans of "Modi-Adani Bhai
Bhai".
When
the House met at 6 pm following two adjournments earlier, Speaker Om Birla placed
various cut motions moved by members to the Demands for Grants and put them to
vote together. They were all disallowed by a voice vote. “In relation to
Demands for Grants, several cut motions have been received. Due to lack of
time, I consider all the proposals as presented,” Birla said before putting
them to vote.
The
Speaker then read out the department-wise submissions for outstanding Demands
for Grants with regard to Budget 2023-24 and put them to vote one by one. And
the Demands for Grants were passed through a voice vote without any discussion
amid dim from the opposition.
Finance
Minister Nirmala Sitharaman then introduced the Appropriation Bill 2023, seeking
approval for withdrawing funds from the Consolidated Fund of India, for
consideration and passing and this, too, was passed with a voice vote. The
House was then adjourned for the day.
The
Parliament proceedings have been witnessing adjournments consecutively for
the eight day today over BJPs demand for
apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the United Kingdom on
Indian democracy and also over the demand of a Joint Parliamentary Committee
probe into the Hindenburg-Adani issue.
