Linking of Voter ID with Aadhaar card deadline extended.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has extended the deadline to link Voter IDs with the Aadhaar card to March 31, 2024, from earlier, April 1, 2023.
“The
central government hereby makes the following amendment in the notification dated
June 17, 2022. In the said notification, for the words and figures, the 1st
April 2023 for the words and figures, the 31st March, 2024 shall be substituted,”
the notification read.
Earlier
in June, the Union government in its notification, dated June 17, 2022, notified April 1, 2023 as
the last date for electors to "may" submit their Aadhaar numbers for linking with
voter IDs by filling a new form.
The
Election Commission had also started a campaign on August 1, 2022, to collect
Aadhaar numbers from voters in a voluntary drive, under the Election Laws
(Amendment) Act, 2021, in order to link the Aadhaar with voter IDs.
However, linking of the two is not mandatory in nature but helps in “identification of registration of the name of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency”, the Election Commission said.
