ITANAGAR:
The state capital had witnessed one of the largest protest rallies ever to have happened
after a span of few years since the post-PRC issue. The masses included students
from various institutions within the Itanagar Capital Region, hundreds stormed
the streets from Akashdeep to Tennis Court bellowing “Nai chalega Nai chalega” over the much-debated and discussed topic viz "the offspring issue"
Why in the News?
The
rally was not an unprecedented event, it had its way back from the gradual
agitation that aroused from the failure of the social justice & empowerment
and tribal affairs (SJETA) department to come up with a draft on the ST status
of children born to APST mothers and non-APST fathers. The SPACE Media had reported on 3rd September 2021 on the AAPSU’S stand where if the
department fails to comply, it shall see the consequences henceforth a seven
days ultimatum was provided.
But on
2nd October 2021, AAPSU has appealed for a protest rally on the Offspring issue
on 5th October from Akashdeep to Civil Secretariat with deep anguish
and despondency over the repeated failure of the SJETA to comply with the
demand the AAPSU had.
Henceforth on 5th October 2021, AAPSU along with hundreds of students bodies from across the ICR stormed into the streets of ICR bellowing “Nai chalega Nai chalega” while they walked past the Akashdeep to Civil Secretariat and then reaching the Tennis Court region here in the state Capital.
The SPACE Media went Live on 5th October where the despondency and deplorable the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) was clearly visible. Earlier the Protest was anticipated to be held only within the ICR but the rally on Tuesday witnessed an astounding state-wide protest, which jolted the table of the concerned departments and wreck the sleepy brains of the Government.
Dawdling on the issuance of Offspring Draft Ordinance
has been SJETA’s intentional behavior _stated AAPSU.
What's the Exact Demand?
The immediate draft of an ordinance on the offspring issue is the demand that AAPSU had been placing on the table of the department which remains unattended, unheard, and overlooked, stated the AAPSU, President Hawa Bagang.
Further, he stated, "The officers involved in
the issuance of the ST certificate to the Non-APSTs through an illegal means
also be brought to light and arrested"
“Government
should enact a law to make that happen “ added Bagang
The AAPSU President while interviewing the SPACE MEDIA in the month of September added that “any Non-APST individual possessing APST certificate should unanimously surrender it, or else the union shall find out” On 5th of October 2021, the AAPSU further stressed the said issue and added that if any doubt on an individual’s ST status arises, he/she should be verified and if necessary have it cancelled.”
Who participated in the Protest rally?
As per the notification given by the AAPSU on 2nd October, the union appealed:
