Naharlagun: The district administration has recently taken up a series of steps to either meet the requirements of the construction of Four Laning of the NH415 or to curb the burgeoning traffic in the Capital region. Similarly, the District Administration has dismantled one of the iconic structures of the twin capital city viz "Hathi Matha"
In-Depth
The four laning of the highways is progressing accordingly with the DA's ardent attention towards its earnest completion. On Friday 12th August DC Capital Shri Talo Potom had informed the SPACE that the dismantling of the Hathi Matha structure was necessary to contain the traffic and for the future four-laning of the highway in the twin capital city, Naharlagun in particular.
"Hathi Matha" had always served the people of Naharlagun in a way that it became an iconic mark of an address for many people irrespective of commuters, travelers, business, officials, etc.
Over the years due to the increase in traffic and vehicle users within the twin capital, the iconic structured area became a deterrence for the easy movement of vehicles. Efforts were made by the traffic and the police administration to manage the traffic movement especially in this area of Hathi Matha.
Since the month of September and October, the DA took necessary steps for the easy movement of the vehicle by diverting the vehicles to the left which would ply towards Itanagar.
