Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport ranked as the 10th busiest airports in India.

The
Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) of Guwahati has been
ranked in the tenth position among the busiest airports in India in the
financial year 2022 in terms of domestic passengers.
The news
was shared by Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal on Saturday.
The Housing and Urban Affairs’ Minister took to his Twitter
and wrote, “Guwahati’s LGBI Airport ranked among the Top
10 airports of India! Realising the visionary “Act East” policy of Hon’PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, the stellar efforts of Hon’ Union Minister Shri @JM_Scindia & HCM Dr.@himantabiswa, have exponentially boosted air connectivity
across NE.
According
to the data shared by the minister, LGBI airport hosted 3.15 million passengers
in the 2022 financial year.
Out of
the ten airports, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) has been
ranked one with 32.82 million domestic passengers followed by Chhatrapati
Shivaji Airport (Mumbai) with 18.56 million, Kempegowda International Airport
(Bengaluru) with 15.19 million, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad)
with 11 million, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata)
with 10.69 million, Chennai International Airport with 7.86 million, Goa
International Airport with 5.13 million, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International
Airport (Ahmedabad) with 5.05 million, Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport
(Srinagar) with 3.15 million and lastly, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi
International Airport (Guwahati) with 3.15 million ranked at the tenth
position.
According
to a report ny news agency ANI, the LGBI
Airport, Guwahati in February 2023 had recorded a footfall of nearly 4 lakh
passengers witnessing a sharp increase as compared to last year’s February.
Out of
the total, nearly 1,90,000 were departure passengers and the remaining were
arrival travellers which is 20 percent higher than February 2022, the report stated.
It
further said, the top three national destinations were Mumbai, Delhi and
Bengaluru from Guwahati while the two international destinations were Singapore
and Paro.
“The LGBI
airport had witnessed nearly 1,800 movements of flights in February 2023, which
was 24 % higher than last year’s February figure,” it added.
