Capital Police arrested three Extortionists near Gohpur Check Gate

ITANAGAR: On an FIR lodged by a complainant of ICR, The Capital Police arrested three extortionists near the Gohpur check gate in a very cautious manner, keeping themselves concealed with the complainant's vehicle. The news was then circulated by the Capital Police.

The Capital Police received an FIR at Chimpu Police Station on 29th of September 2021, wherein a lady complained about some unknown miscreant who claimed to be a member of ULFA(I), had demanded a ransom of Rs 30 Laks & on having failed to meet the demand threatened for the dire consequences.
The Police on receipt of the FIR delve into the investigation & decipher the extorntionist. The phone calls between the caller and the complainant was kept under surveillance by the police.
On 08.11.2021 the extortionist repeatedly threatened the complainant over the phone and demanded a payment of Rs. 1.5 lakhs near Hollongi by herself alone. However, the complainant had forwarded the message to the Police even after being warned by the callers for not informing the police.
SP Capital Shri Jimmy Chiram, IPS on the 9th of November 2021, formed a team comprised of Insp Pandey, Ct Robi, Ct Tani, Ct. Tago, Ct. Pali, Ct. Ligu, Ct. Mili, Ct. Medhi and Ct. Medhi led by SDPO Itanagar Kamdam Sikom to accompany the complainant to Hollongi where she was planned to meet with the extortionist to pay the money.
Three people viz, 1. Khamin Swargiary -34 years S/O Khaneswar Swargiayri of Village- Domoria, PS- Tamulpur, Distt- Baksa, Assam 2. Janik Basumatary- 25 S/O Sh. Doneswar Basumatary of village- Bikrampur,PS- Sotia, Distt- Biswanath, Assam and 3. Majirul Islam -25 yrs S/O Nazirul Islam of Village- Bakula, PS- Jamuguri, District- Sonitpur, Assam were apprehended by the Police team when they met the complainant to received the extortion money near the Gohpur gate. According to the Capital Police, The preliminary interrogation has brought out that Khamin Swargiyari has been an active member of NDFB(S) since 2004, Janik Basumatary's father and mothers-in-law were employed by the complainant as domestic help and he used to visit the complainant's house to see his in-laws. He has detailed information about the complaint's socioeconomic status and he has passed the information to Khamin Swargiyari.
