After the demise of MLA of Gossaigaon and UPPL MLA of Tamulpur constituency due to post Covid-19 complications, the constituency remained void and the by-poll election was needed for the region and more importantly when the MLAs of Thowra, Mariani and Bhabanipur switched to BJP the necessity of the election grew more.
According to the INDIA TODAY, nearly 7.97 lakh voters will decide the fate of 31 candidates in the upcoming bye-elections for the five Assam assemblies.
What's the Update?
Bye-elections for five assembly constituencies Thowra, Mariani, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur and Gossaigaon has begun today, wherein hundreds of people in the queue were witnessed since the morning 7:am.
In the last assembly election in Assam, Congress had won Thowra and Mariani while Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF won Bhabanipur, BPF won the Gossaigaon seat and BJP’s ally UPPL won the Tamulpur seat.
