Arunachal Pradesh Observes 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The inaugural ceremony is currently being organized at Lower Subansiri district, Ziro; the very place where 50 years ago, Arunachal was officially declared from the erstwhile “NEFA” (North East Frontier Agency) to the Union Territory of “Arunachal Pradesh” by the then Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi on 20th January 1972. Later on 20th February, 1987 Arunachal Pradesh as a state attained its full political status.
The celebrations kicked off with the launch of Golden Jubilee Media Campaign by hon’ble Governor, A.P, Dr. B.D. Mishra.
On 29th December last year, the Arunachal Pradesh Government preconized Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt as the state’s Brand Ambassador for a month-long media campaign to commemorate the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Dutt was named as the state’s brand ambassador with a clear motive to promulgate awareness on “Drug Abuse and Addiction.” Besides, the state also appointed film producer Rahul Mittra.
The Promo video showcases the spectacular landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, its culture and tradition in the Mechuka valley of Shi Yomi district. In the video, Dutt is portrayed as a young icon, nature lover, and an anti-addiction champion.
A book titled, “Butterflies of Talley Valley,” jointly written by Sanjay Sondhi, Pratibha Riswadkar and former DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of Ziro, Mrs. Koj Rinya, IFS Lower Subansiri, was also launched at the programme.
Following, an alluring united mega dance show by women folks of the Tagin, Apatani and Nyishi communities representing Subansiri Basin of Arunachal was presented, besides a brief felicitation session for all the previous serving Chief Ministers of state.
Chairman of the Golden Jubilee celebration, Hon’ble speaker Shri PD Sona and Law & Justice Minister of India, Shri Kiren Rijiju both fervently addressed the gathering. Speaker PD Sona conveyed: “We all need to come together as one family to make Arunachal great again; even bigger and greater in the days to come.” “The Arunachal of today has been possible for the many past contributions made by our founding fathers and all those who followed after,” Rijiju affirmed.
Among the delegates of the programme were: CM Shri Pema Khandu, Deputy CM Shri Chowna Mein, Council of Ministers, Lok Sabha Member Shri Tapir Gao, Rajya Sabha member Shri Nabam Rebia, chairpersons, Mayor, Zila Parishad members, Chief Secretary, Director General, Gaon Buras, Officers, PRI leaders and the Inaugural Committee of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
“Over the last 50 years, Arunachal has witnessed well-rounded development in Road Connectivity, Railways, Digital Connectivity and most conspicuously---the field of Education,” the CM noted.
Furthermore, several announcements were made to mark the state’s 50th Celebrations. "More than 50 schools in Arunachal shall be converted to 'Golden Jubilee Modern Schools' with a total investment of 500 Crores," he declared. Simultaneously, it was also announced that, the Golden Jubilee Cabinet has decided to arrange incentives for Civil Service aspirants who excel in UPSC.
The cabinet also formulated a resolution that APST students studying, in and outside Arunachal in provisional courses like IIT, IAM, National Law university and renowned institutes like AIIMS, shall be rewarded with prize money worth 2 Lakhs.
To mark the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations, Dulari Kanya Scheme- a State Government Scheme which was implemented on 15th August, 2016 to encourage the birth of Girl Child, as stated by CM Khandu, “shall offer additional incentives of Rs. 5000/-;” summing up to a total Rs. 25,000/- fixed deposit. The scheme originally offered a total amount of Rs 20,000/- fixed deposit for every girl child delivered in any government/government approved private hospital, which can be retrieved by the beneficiary when she reaches the age of 18.
Development along border areas was also stressed upon. The CM noted that “Electricity” and “Tower connectivity” are two crucial needs for civilians and armed forces inhabiting the border villages. He extended his profound gratitude to PM Modi for sanctioning a total of 980 4G towers towards the cause and informed that the project is currently underway.
As a part of “Golden Jubilee Illumination Program,” the cabinet resolved to identify 50 locations for installation of 200 Crores “Stand Along Micro” and “Mini Hydro Projects.”
Over the years, the state has witnessed heightened improvement in Rural Economy. The State Government set target to empower rural women folks by encouraging the formation of SHGs (Self Help Groups). The CM remarked, “within the span of 1 year, more than 5000 SHGs has been formed in A.P and that, about more than 50,000 beneficiaries are currently engrossed in SHGs as their prime source of income.
The cabinet in view of the milestones achieved from the formation SHGs in rural areas of the state, has decided to award, top 500 performing women SHGs with 1 lakh capital as a means to further enrich their economy. That said, it was mentioned, PNFs, as in “Primary Level Federation” shall be conferred with 2 lakhs amount for Wood transport and that a total 300 people shall be funded.
In addition, “Good Governance Index” shall be implemented to regulate “district-wise development” with the hopes to ensure, all parameters attain the required marking to determine equal and unbiased development.
CM Khandu in his speech also addressed the move to generate more resources from the state. He mentioned, “unfortunately due to Chinese objection, external funding has been unattainable. Hence, the Golden Jubilee cabinet has resolved to focus on the funding patterns and infrastructure by constituting a separate committee known as the “Arunachal Pradesh Infrastructure Financing Authority.”
Ultimately, he imparted the said target of inaugurating 365 projects within the span of 1 year.
Ensuing, Hon’ble Governor graced the congregation with a vote of thanks.
Hon’ble Minister Er Tage Taki concluded the program with a speech, followed by the National Anthem, marking the closing ceremony.
Later today, a cycling rally with the theme of ‘Zero emission, Green is our mission’ rolled in. MLAs from different constituencies of the state trailed along the serene tracks of Ziro valley. The event was organized by Arunachal Pradesh Golden Jubilee Committee in collaboration with Ziro MTB club.
Meantime, the celebrations continue and is currently streaming live on various social media platforms with stagings from local artists and bands such as Taba Chake, Thupten Tsering and more at Padi Yubbe Stadium, Ziro.
