2 AANLA Cadres Surrenders before Indian Army: Report
Lekhapani Battalion has been defeating every evil scheme of rebel organisations in Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in its ongoing attempts to restore peace. During these series of operations, the army was able to persuade two AANLA cadres to surrender.
In-depth
SS Private Porimal Singh and SS Private Ram Kumar, both residents of Joypur and active cadres of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army, were trained in AANLA's Ranga Pahar camp in 2009. Following the earnest and valiant efforts of security personnel in Lekhapani, both cadres opted to join the mainstream.
The cadres surrendered with two pistols and seven live rounds, as well as identification cards from the AANLA. The Indian Army's tremendous resolve against insurgency organisations' malicious motives for a peaceful and prosperous North East is demonstrated by such successful operations.
About AANLA
In the second half of 2006, the AANLA (All Adivasi National Liberation Army) was founded.
The AANLA claims to be fighting for the survival of the tribal culture of plantation labourers whose forefathers were transported from northern India by British colonialists. The group wants the Adivasi community to be classified as a Scheduled Tribe (ST) and for displaced Adivasi people to be rehabilitated. Official sources, on the other hand, claim that the AANLA is a poorly organised organisation with ill-defined goals and objectives.
Operating Area
The outfit's principal operating areas are Assam's Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts. AANLA cadres have also been arrested in the Kokrajhar region of western Assam and the Dimapur district of Nagaland.
Funding
As by an article on AANLA titled, "Incidents and Statements involving AANLA: 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2006-2012," Extortion is mostly carried out in the Golaghat and Karbi Anglong tea gardens. In the case that its demand is not met, it abducts estate managers. The Tinsukia district has also been the scene of some extortion by AANLA cadres. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the NSCN-IM are said to share a portion of the extorted money with the group.
